The Paris Chapter: 6 - 12 Nov
Paris Photo, Beauvoir & Sartre, yin rituals, ciné concerts, aerobatics, art masterclasses, astro-matchmaking, street photography, César films, green tech networking, a jazz brunch and more.
On honouring our creations. My approach to building The Paris Chapter has been akin to my technique for cold water ocean swims: a middle ground between painful inch-by-inching and the shock of the immediate all-in. The rule is this: once you start walking in, you can do anything you want - scream, gasp, swear - but you’re not allowed to stop. You just keep moving forward, until the wading turns to swimming, and the prickles turn to pride at what you’ve accomplished.
After 22 editions and over 350 event listings, with 25+ curations now on offer each week, I’m finally starting to truly appreciate what I’ve created. It’s a beast of a thing - a beautiful one, but a beast at that. Beyond the standard weekly maintenance, which swells as I discover ever more venues and event avenues, there are so very many seeds to nurture: pathways to take us ever deeper into community and true connection.
Your support is everything, and the time has come. From here forward, premium subscribers will be able to access the full event line-up, for the cost of a matcha latte each month (6€).
My goal is to help you have the richest, deepest possible experience of Paris and all its intellectual and artistic treasures. Here’s a quick overview of the kind of events I look for: creativity talks, philosophical discussions, book chats, sustainability sessions, sensory experiences, innovation workshops, dance classes, zen ateliers, intimate gigs - in short, a wide range of opportunities to stimulate your body, mind and soul.
If you’re new here, feel free to browse the archives for a more detailed idea of what’s typically featured (though the line-up changes each week).
Apologies for the late send-out this week, it’ll be the Friday cadence onward.
Art salve
Paris Photo, Grand Palais Éphémère (7e)
It’s a rare thing to be able to see such a diverse array of photographic styles all in the one place. Now in its 26th year, Paris Photo is the largest international photography fair in the world, uniting nearly 200 exhibitors and representing both established and emerging artists.
As one might expect, the number of attendees is often commensurate to the volume of works: you’ll leave utterly satiated on the visual treasures front, and likely in need of that fresh air stroll at the foot of the Eiffel Tower (which towers over the pavilion).
