ABOUT THE CONTENT

My goal is to help you have the richest, deepest possible experience of Paris and all its intellectual and artistic treasures.

As a quick idea of what to expect:

  • First and foremost: no tourist fare. Events are drawn from local institutions (or are hosted by residents), and are primarily free or at minimal cost.

  • A mix of French and English events. Immersion is the best way to learn!

  • The more intimate, the better. Grand events do make the list, but the preference goes to ones where it’s easiest to meet new people.

  • Opportunities to stimulate your body, mind and soul. “I contain multitudes” and have no doubt you do, too. As such, the curation spans creativity talks, philosophical discussions, book chats, sustainability sessions, sensory experiences, innovation workshops, dance classes, zen ateliers, intimate gigs… whatever happens to pique our curiosity that week.

Feel free to browse the archives for a more detailed idea of what’s typically featured (though the line-up changes each week). This edition gives you a good overview.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

That would be me, Jenni Dawes. I’m an Australian strategist, creative director, writer and coach, based in Paris by way of New York. I’m passionate about storytelling, sensory design, photography, neuroscience, grand ideas, wilderness adventures, and rivalling Munger’s reading habits (I’m curious about most everything, as my profile on Why Is This Interesting reveals).

This newsletter came alive from several factors colliding: a desire to write for myself again (instead of just for clients); born-and-bred Parisian friends asking me for recommendations; and the realisation that not everyone spends hours researching, just for fun.

I’ve been building my Paris lists since I first visited 15 years ago - I’ve seen most every museum, made many a colour-coded custom map, and clocked up countless 20,000 step days exploring the city.

My favourite thing to do in Paris is simply wander - flâner, as the French would say - led by a stream of light here, a waft of music there, a tuft of tidy red geraniums gracing an iron-laced balcony, a jumble of book stands spilling out from a store…

My explorations have changed a little from my early, pre-smartphone visits, when I’d wander as pleased before pulling out a pocket-sized street directory to figure out where the hell I was, and how to find my way home. They’re still my go-to Paris activity, my capacity for delight and wonder expanding a little further each time.
